Week 1: Getting back in the swing of it
I wish i could say i've had a long relaxing summer break but it’s been plagued with work and placement. It’s not all bad though i did learn a lot during my time on placement and have been given an insight into the industry and perhaps something i hadn’t thought about. I had hoped this course would give me something like that, something that would make me think about my career choices. In this first post i will be talking about getting back into university life and how placement has helped me prepare for this year.
I have to admit i haven’t had much experience in the industry and that is holding me back so to get my first taste this summer was scary but also exciting. Editing has always been an area in which i have gravitated towards and going into this placement thats what i knew i would be doing but for some reason it was still terrifying. The thought of not being as good as you think you were lingered around me the whole time but it quickly became apparent to me that they were there to help me improve and show me the little things i have been missing out on.
It was this help that has taught me a deeper understanding to editing and gave me a new way to look at approaching a fresh sequence and where to start first. I think i can safely say these guys helped me massively over the summer and i have definitely learnt a lot more from them which i know will help me this coming year. The new time management skills i have gained will be greatly welcomed this year as in previous ones thats where i have lacked, getting things done fast and in time safely. I want to make sure I’m focused and getting everything done to my absolute best this year as i know i haven’t been doing that previously.
Placement has prepared me and taught me a lot over the summer but i know theres still a lot more to do now we’re back, the work load and pressure will kill me but i know with what i’ve done over the summer i’ll be able to tackle the year head on.
Weekly Recommendation:
American Vandal Season 2:
Managed to take a new angle on the mockumentary style when it followed the 'Making a Murderer' format but with a comical plot. Premise of the series is hilarious and something of pure genius but the cinematography of the show gives it another reason why it's a must watch.
